What was your life like before coming to Sovereign Health?
My life was completely unmanageable. I didn’t know what to do next. I was totally isolated. My work was suffering because all I wanted to do was stay home and drink and take pills. I was very scared of what was going to happen to me and had no hope for the future.
What are the most difficult aspects of struggling with addiction and mental health issues?
The worst part of addiction is the hopeless feeling. You know you want to get better but you don’t know how to do it. It’s a vicious cycle. The more you continue to use, the more hopeless you feel.
What did you learn during treatment that is most helpful in your life today?
The most important thing I learned in treatment was that I am not alone. I have a disease and should not feel ashamed of myself. I also learned that I must completely surrender and give everything over to God. Talking about it with other addicts is also imperative.
Describe how your life is different now. What is the best part of your life today?
My life is completely different now. I feel a peace I have never had. The best part of my life now is that I wake up happy and hopeful. I don’t have to worry about what my day and future will bring. It is in God’s hands and I just trust him and wait in peace.
What are some of your goals for the future?
My goals are to stay sober, happy and hopeful. I want to help others with their addictions. I want to have loving relationships and a fulfilling career. I want to be financially stable and travel the world helping others wherever I go.
What would you want to tell other people who are struggling with the same issues you were?
Don’t give up. You can find the peace you deserve; you will be so glad you did. Take one day at a time, smile and make it happen.
